When one thinks of craft beer in Florida, it is not surprising for Fort Lauderdale to come to mind. This is where one of the original famous Florida breweries, Funky Buddha, got its start. Since then, the Fort Lauderdale brewery scene has grown with quite a few places stirring up unique and tasty beer for the community.
I have been to Fort Lauderdale many times and have developed a list of favorites over the year. This post contains what I think are the best Fort Lauderdale breweries to visit. Whether you are a local or a tourist, I hope this post introduces you to a new place to get beer in the area. I will be sure to update this post in the future, but for now, here are my top Fort Lauderdale breweries.
1. Invasive Species Brewing
Personally, I think the best Fort Lauderdale brewery hands down is Invasive Species. We visited the taproom for the first time in 2020 and were hooked on the beer and the style. We found the rustic yet quirky Old Florida vibes to be a perfect fit for the area. And of course, the hazy IPA’s were right up our alley!
The tap list contains IPAs, sours, and a couple light beers, but definitely trends towards modern beer styles. Beers like the Space Quake Double IPA are my drink of choice, but you should be able to find something for everyone. They also offer guest cider taps, wine and even brew up some crazy creations like 14% ABV Sake/Beer hybrid!
The taproom is a bit on the small side, but there is indoor and outdoor seating. If you want to visit one of the most distinct Fort Lauderdale breweries, I highly recommend Invasive Species.
2. Khoffner Brewery & Cidery
Located in the Sistrunk marketplace, Khoffner Brewery is a new favorite specializing in German Pilsners, Ales and Ciders. This brewer is so serious, he imports the grains from Europe and maintains a similar water profile for beer making. Though the beer tastes German, Khoffner Brewery has some Floridian touches as well, like having two on-site humidors filled with cigars rolled in Miami and a Floridian cider made with mangos.
I am not exactly a beer purist, so I had my hesitations, but this brewery even impressed an IPA lover like myself! The Marzen Oktoberfest was my favorite, as well as the bready Hefeweizen and the Vanilla Bean Stout. Andrew loves pilsners and found this to be the best one in town!
This brewery has a lot going for it, from the attention to detail in the beers, to the fact that you can order food from throughout the food hall while you are here. For traditional brews in a contemporary setting, Khoffner is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
3. Funky Buddha Brewery
It’s pretty impossible to have a best Fort Lauderdale brewery list without including Funky Buddha! This is the place that started it all when it opened in 2013. Since then, they have gained popularity with their Floridian Hefeweizen beers and the famous Maple Bacon Coffee Porter festival.
This brewery has gone through some changes since being bought out by Constellation Brands in 2017. Initially, I was so sad to see favorites like Nib Smuggler and Lemon Meringue Pie no longer on the shelf in stores. They are have started created some new favorites now though and you can find their Chant IPA and Last Snow across Florida shelves. Regardless, this brewery is always a blast to visit with games, tours and a huge variety of beer to try.
4. LauderAle Brewery
For a brewery with fun beer and an even more fun experience, LauderAle is the place to go. This marina themed brewery has the best outside atmosphere in the area, which makes for a great time day or night. Even better, there is a tap list with basically every style of beer you could want, and hard seltzer!
They have a few core beers here, including the Coconut Porter, the Double D IPA and the Lunch Money Pale Ale, but most of the menu is always changing. There is a solid mix of classics and inventive brews, like the Disco Lemonade Sour, the Deep Russian Imperial Stout aged in sherry barrels, and the Tangerine Milkshake IPA. The IPA tap list is long as well! This is one of the few places I have seen that does a good job on hazy beers, but they are not the main focus. Though it is tucked away in the warehouse district, it’s worth seeking out LauderAle Brewery for excellent Fort Lauderdale craft beer.
5. Tarpon River Brewing
Another Fort Lauderdale brewery I think excels is Tarpon River Brewing. We were able to walk to this brewery from our hotel last time and loved the boating atmosphere. The tap room is designed to look like a fish camp with a front porch and some southern touches.
This a brewery with broad appeal as you can find pretty much any beer style here. The IPAs are not as bitter an intense as other breweries, which many prefer. I found the sour beers like Boyz n Berry and the wheat beers like Pine Island Punch to be my favorites.
An added bonus about Tarpon River is that they have a delicious food menu too. We loved the wings and hangover fries, and the menu had all sorts of guilty pleasure food like that to indulge in! Between the beer and wine selection, food, games and weekly events, Tarpon River Brewing is a community gathering spot for locals and tourists.
6. Yeasty Brews
The last of the Fort Lauderdale breweries I want to recommend is Yeasty Brews. Though it is located and Lauderhill and half an hour away from the Las Olas strip, you won’t regret making the trip out here. The brewery itself has a very artsy atmosphere with colorful prints, funky furniture, and plant life abound. A stunning neon lion mural welcomes you into this funky craft beer experience.
As for the tap list, they usually have about ten different options, and many very unique. I have seen the most interesting beers here like the Macadamia Nut Milk Stout, a Norwegian Yeast Blonde Ale, and Moscow Mule Flavored Cream Ale. If the choices are too adventurous, you can also get wine, canned cocktails, kombucha, or soda. I recommend getting a flight though and trying craft beer you can only find in Fort Lauderdale!
